New Year: A Momentum

It’s probably hard to celebrate a new year in an uncertain situation, the way we experience it now. It’s been 2 years since the first wave of pandemic broke, even though things are slowly running back, we’re still very much in it with a new mutation detected every 3 months. What should we wish for the new year then?

Life was on hold for a moment the first time pandemic hit, but not with our personal growth. We might have worked from home in the comfort of our pajamas, yet the skill and improvement we had during quarantine were still an achievement. We might have only saw our loved ones through the screen, yet it didn’t change the amount of love we felt for them, even better it became a strength through the darkest time. We might have spent the whole time at home, yet the wisdom we grew was as true as what we gained through traveling to another country or continent. It’s almost like nothing was moving, but lots of thing shifted at the same time.

When we look back to the past year, what we see is hardworking people who tried to make the best out of the situation we were in. People who tried their best to be strength for the others when the day felt like a dark tunnel. People who went the extra miles using their influence to help the unfortunates surviving economic crash. People who refused to see the hardship as a burden, but a way to improve one’s self to be better than yesterday. We feel abundance of gratitude to arrive at this point with those people, keeping hope alive for a better day in the future. We also want to pay respect for those who made such sacrifice to create a better tomorrow for us because without them, we won’t be standing here now.

What we will do for the new year is looking deep into the mirror, thanking ourselves for holding on, celebrating a kinder and gentler soul we’ve became, for waking up every morning and trying our best at work, at school, at home. The new year will be a momentum to reflect on the ups and downs, to think about the next step we need to take, to remind ourselves that it’s okay to take it slow or make a mistake or two on our journey. Treat yourself a me time to regroup with your thoughts and let’s face the year with courage and a big heart.

Happy new year!
