
We often talk about the importance of 7 hours sleep, how it helps our overall body’s health and improve our mood throughout the day. Now let’s level up a little bit and try to get a good quality of sleep! How do we measure the quality of our sleep? There are several points to guide you understand it better.
The first point is falling asleep within 30 minutes after hitting the bed. We naturally feel drowsy and tired, signaling the brain that we are ready to rest. The second is how often you are awaken at night. If you are awaken for more than once through the night, it can be an indicator of trouble. The same goes if you are awaken and having a hard time falling back asleep.
The importance of building a good sleeping habit increases as we get older due to stress and anxiety level that will impact adult’s health, both physically and mentally. Therefore, if you experience neither from points mentioned above, it’s time to adjust your lifestyle to help you get a better quality of sleep. Here are somethings you can try to achieve that:
- Set a regular time to go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning. You are trying to teach your body developing a biological clock. It will help you greatly in the future to give signal to the brain that we are ready to rest or we need to wake up.
- Exercising regularly has great benefit to your sleep quality. Do it 3-4 times a week and rest your body in between those schedule. You can alternate between cardio, weight lift training or breathing practice, as long as you don’t over train or straining your body in the process.
- Do some activities that will relax your body before bed, such as hot bath, reading or meditation. These activities are hoped to slow down your pace after a long day at work, entering a preparation stage to fully rest your body. Avoid checking social media before bed, as they can keep you awake scrolling the endless page all night.
- Decorating your room will also affect your sleeping habit greatly. Set up a dimmer light, turn down any electronic device’s volume, set your air conditioner or heater at a comfortable level and avoic watching TV in bed.
